Capture Prabhakaran alive, India urges Sri Lanka
‘India will continue to request that Prabhakaran be caught alive,’ a ministry source said.
At the same time, New Delhi is aware that Colombo will hand him over only after trying him in Sri Lanka for the crimes he has committed in that country, the source pointed out.
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said Monday Colombo would extradite Prabhakaran, if caught alive, to India - but after first putting him through trial in his country.
In an interview to a private news channel, Rajapaksa said it was ‘almost over’ for the LTTE chief and he could be caught very soon.

While the high-profile company has not restored the connections, it is delivering bills every month at the doors of subscribers.
Though underground cables were laid few years back; neither the digging nor the wire specifications were followed, said a BSNL insider.
As soon as the road widening started this year, the cables emerged with a slight pull of the machines and tore apart the pairs beyond repair, he added. Most of the lines coming out of the three exchanges falling on the ridges of the plateau road are virtually defunct.

Prabhakaran gets 24 hour deadline to surrender
He has said that about 35,000 trapped Tamil civilians have escaped from LTTE-held territory for safety.
Sri Lankan Naval boats rushed in today to carry the civilians fleeing the war zone even as a Tamil Tiger suicide bomber who was among thousands escaping into Army-controlled areas set off a blast that killed at least 17 people, the Defense Ministry said.
At least 5,000 people burst out of the war zone today after soldiers broke through a long earthen wall the Tiger rebels had built to stall their advance, the military said earlier.

Lanka charges Norway with negligence for attack on its embassy
Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona said it had been apprehensive of such an untoward incident following the recent demonstrations by LTTE supporters in the scandinavian nation.
“As a host country, Norway has a legal obligation to protect the diplomatic missions.
The negligence on the part of the Norwegian authorities in ensuring prop er security to our mission can be gauged from the simple fact that the hooligans managed to reach it without any hindrance though it is located on the fifth floor,” Kohona said.

Government refuted Taliban presence, when we opposed: Mehbooba
Addressing a series of election rallies in Devsar and Shangus constituencies today, Mehbooba said the Chief Minister had acknowledged only what she and her party had been saying from day one after deliberate leaks were made by his agencies about infiltration of large number of militants including the Taliban into Kashmir.
Mehbooba said that NC had a vested interest in destabilized conditions and it had deliberately tried to create a fear psychosis among the people. “It wanted to create an atmosphere of fear in the whole valley to prevent people from voting in the Lok Sabha polls as it had done during the Assembly elections in the Srinagar city”, she said and added that PDP had rightly questioned the veracity of the state government pronouncements on the issue.

We need unconditional support to fight terror: Zardari
Pakistan is “fighting a battle for its own survival,” Zardari told US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke and Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a meeting late last night. Zardari said the Pakistan government will “not succumb to any pressure by militants” though the process of dialogue should be initiated “with those who lay down their arms and do not challenge the writ of the government”.
The Pakistan President said the military action “is only one aspect of the solution.”
