Another youth dies, Baramulla toll up to 4
The army was brought into action to maintain law and order hours after government had replaced CRPF deployments in Baramulla with J&K Armed Police.
Amir Rashid Mir son of Abdur Rashid Mir of Tawheed Gunj Baramulla injured during a clash between people and police over the alleged misbehavior with a woman by police on June 29 succumbed at the SKIMS, Soura today morning.

Strike affects normal life in Pampore
The Pampore residents demand that the land be restored back to its original position. Bar association Pampore has expressed serious concerns over what it said destruction of saffron rich land by the government.
Meanwhile spokesman of the Government today clarified that no land has been leased out to CRPF at Pampore as reported in a section of the press.
Reacting to the report, the spokesman said that the procedure for allotment of any land to army and para-military forces, NOC is required to be issued by the State Home Department. He said this NOC is issued only after the case is cleared by a committee of officers constituted by the government for this purpose.

Kashmiris defy curfew, 16 killed in firing
The people defied curfew restrictions and held protest demonstrations. Police and security forces opened fire on the demonstrators at a number of places in Bandipora, Lasjan, Bagh-e-Mehtab, Rainawari, Saidapora, Bemina, and Baramulla resulting in killings and injuries to the people.
Force was used against the demonstrators at large number of other places also. The cops fired in air, lobbed smoke shells and resorted to lathi charge. Even an ambulance of SMHS hospital , JK01 D 2713, carrying bodies of the two person, killed in firing, back to Lasjan was attacked by CRPF and BSF men at Lasjan bridge. Its window panes were smashed and those, including the employees of SMHS, were beaten to pulp.

Yasin ends fast after Prime Minister’s assurance
JKLF Chief was discharged from SKIMS where he was undergoing treatment following deterioration in his health due to the fast. Amid pro-freedom slogans, a large number of people including women and children later took Malik back home from SKIMS in the shape of a rally.
They stayed on, raising slogans until the convoy of vehicles carrying Yasin Malik reached Maisuma locality. Anticipating protests on the arrival of JKLF chief back home after six days of hospitalisation, there was heavy deployment of police and CRPF in Maisuma and adjoining areas.

Army called out, curfew extended to Samba, Bhaderwah
Altogether, 70 persons including a dozen cops were injured in fresh clashes between police and protestors while over 150 Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists including senior BJP leaders Dr Nirmal Singh, Baldev Singh and Sat Pal were arrested by police for defying curfew restrictions from different parts of Jammu region.
Reports said that 21 persons including two security personnel were injured in firing and stone pelting when the agitated protestors clashed with the members of the majority community in Seri Market of Bhaderwah town. The clash reportedly began after the protestors including the activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) entered into a verbal duel with a shopkeeper at Yogi Mohalla when they forcefully tried to close his shop.
Soon after the incident, the locals of both the communities came across and started pelting stones on each other for 45 minutes near Seri Market, said reports, adding, “Panic gripped in the entire area when the PSO of Municipal Committee Bhaderwah Javed Azad opened fire in the area.” Finding the situation going out of control, police opened fire to disperse the mob. One CRPF jawan identified as S K Sahu and one protestor identified as Manjeet Singh received bullet injuries in the incident.
Reports further maintained that a grenade was lobbed by an unidentified person on protestors in which three persons identified as Arvind Kumar, Pammi Kumar and Satish Chander received critical injuries. Reports said that seven critically injured protestors were airlifted to Government Medical College Jammu where their condition was stated to be critical.

Day 3: 3 hurt in police firing, 55 in clashes
Normal life was crippled amid a complete shutdown in valley coupled with strong anti-government protest demonstrations over the transfer of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) at numerous places in Srinagar and else where.
Atleast 15,000 yatris stopped by police at Khanabal-Pahalgam road following protests at different places were allowed to move ahead to the base camps after 3 PM today. Meanwhile, reports said that the pilgrimage continued at Amarnath cave.
Meanwhile, Inspector general of police (IGP) Kashmir S M Sahai told Kashmir, “This is a rumor and in no way curfew will be imposed,” he said and added, “Police is ready to tackle any situation.” He that police is trying to talk to the senior and respectable persons in various localities so that normal situation could be restored as soon as possible.
He claimed that he has directed the law enforcing agencies to maintain restrain while dealing the protests, “We are trying our best to maintain atmost restrain although many miscreants among the mobs attack the Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by hurling stones on them” he said and added, “It is because of the restrain that about forty personnel of police and CRPF have been injured. Even police stations and posts have been attacked,” the police official said.

60 injured, six in police firing
Normal life was paralysed here and in Ganderbal in view of the spontaneous general strike. Amarnath yatra remained suspended from here to Baltal for more than six hours following violent clashes between demonstrators and cops at Ganderbal.
Over 10,000 vehicles were stranded on the road and were being cleared only late this evening after heavy deployment of army, para military personnel and police. Police opened Ganderbal old city here and six persons received bullet injuries. The angry protestors burnt police vehicles and ransacked government buildings.
This morning demonstrators took to streets and held demonstrations. Whatever shops and other business were open in the morning were closed immediately and the vehicular traffic movement particularly the passenger transport went off the roads. Most government offices and educational institutions and banks remained closed remained closed.

Over 6,000 pilgrims move ahead of schedule
Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the authorities to ensure incident-free yatra. The CRPF, police and BSF are guarding entire Pahalgam up till Chandanwari (the last place till vehicular movement), contingents of Army are guarding the hilltops surrounding Chandanwari and places en route to cave.
The first batch of devo tees comprising of 1700 women, 600 children and 65 sadhus had the ‘darshan' of the naturally formed ice lingam in the cave late Tuesday, the sources said.
The chants of ‘Bum bum Bholey' rented the air as devotees left the base camps towards the cave shrine, protected by a three-tier security ring.
Kashmir Times learnt from the official sources that another 6,335 pilgrims preferred shortest Baltal route in Ganderbal to reach the cave.
Another 2,560 devotees started onward journey to the 3,380 metre high cave from Nunwan base camp along the 46-km traditional Pahalgam route, official sources confirmed.
Meanwhile a batch of 2,837 pilgrims which has begun the yatra from Jammu reached Baltal and Nunwan base camps on Tuesday evening. This batch of yatris left for the holy cave today.
The yatris included 1,846 men, 778 women, 174 children and 67 sadhus – left in 59 buses and 29 light carriers from the newly-constructed Amarnath Yatri Bhawan at Bhagwati Nagar area.

22 injured in Srinagar IED blast
Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has owned responsibility for attack. Its spokesman said the attack was aimed at CRPF and regretted the injuries to the civilians.
It was the first attack of its kind after a long time and occurred at a time when assembly election related activities had started picking up here.
