Homage paid to Kargil martyrs in Drass
The hills of Drass in Jammu and Kashmir were lit up Sunday night climaxing a spectacular ceremony held here to mark the 10th anniversary of India's victory in the Kargil conflict with Pakistan.
The string of lighted dots shone like a sparkling necklace laid over the hills of Tololing and Tiger Hill in the Drass sector - the places the nation's eyes remained focused on during the bloody war to repel intruders backed by the Pakistani Army.
This was the breathtaking culmination of the two-day ceremony held here to pay homage to the 527 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice.

Fire breakouts in Kargil
In two separate incidents in Kargil town, a fire broke out at the recreation centre of Army Hospital located at Pratappur at around 2145 hrs on Wednesday, while in another incident a major fire broke out in the wee hours today, according to the civil administration. The army barrack was completely gutted in the fire but no causality was reported. It is believed that a kerosene oil bukhari caused the fire. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
Army personnel and villagers from the nearby village reached the spot to counter the fire and saved the nearby temple. In another incident a major fire broke out at Hotel Highland at 3:45 AM located at Baroo. The hotel was completely burnt and reduced to ashes. The 40 room hotel was on lease with the people of HCC and eighty employees were learned to be staying in the hotel.
